The History of St. Raymond Nonnatus Parish
Father Francis Scanlan plunged the shovel into the sandy clay and turned over partially frozen dirt to the applause of the spectators.
Looking at his flock he said, "Untold and yet unborn generations will bless our memory and foresight in the purchase of this property. For someday there will arise on it a Cathedral!"
It was November 8, 1917.
Our Patron Saint
St. Raymond Nonnatus is the patron saint of unborn children.
He was delivered by cesarean in 1204 after his mother died during childbirth. Non natus is Latin for "not born."
Diocesan Seat
St. Raymond is the diocesan seat for the Bishop of Joliet.
Erected in 1948 the of the Diocese of Joliet has many parallels to the growth of suburban Chicago after World War II
