The Cathedral: Helping for One Year
While Sacred Heart parish was trying to rebuild a church and school community, Father Jim Burnett contacted the Diocese of Bioloxi to ask how the Cathedral community could help fellow Catholics in need. They responded by linking our community with the Sacred Heart community in D'Iberville.
Father Burnett, Father Baker, Eileen Gutierrez, Gloria McConnell, Marcille Sandahl and Peg Schauer then formed a committee to help Sacred Heart. The goal is to provide one solid year of help; financially, physically, and spiritually.
The Cathedral community responded: The special collection on October 8th and 9th raised over $18,000, making it the single largest "second collection" in more than a generation.
How You Can Help
What the school needs at this time is financial assistance to rebuild not only the school but also families. They need help to finance different projects such as Adopt a Family, Adopt a Student, Technology, Library, Furniture, Office Equipment and Playground Equipment.
If you chose to adopt a family we would like to put you in contact with a specific family to personally asses their needs.
If you would like to adopt a student the tuition is $250.00 a month per student and we would like for you to follow the child’s progress throughout the year. The technology would provide support for computers, printers and software to be replaced in our computer lab, office and classrooms.
- The Library needs books and software for reading programs.
- Furniture: desks, chairs, tables and office furniture.
- Office equipment: a copy machine, fax machine, telephones, laminator, three-hole punch and paper cutter.
- All of the playground equipment washed away. A playground fund will build a new one that can be cemented into the ground.
