So much has been happening around the parish, I need to cover a few different subjects this week.

First and foremost, I have to say I was tremendously impressed with our Parish Service Day. I certainly knew this was a very good thing—a couple hundred of our people out working in our community is nothing but good.  But, the joy, energy and enthusiasm with which the work was done was particularly striking.  I hope these pictures convey some of that.

To give you an idea of the scope of the work, here is the list of organizations and agencies people from our parish served:

 · Villa Franciscan
 · Trinity Services
 · Joliet Park District
 · Sunny Hill Nursing Home
 · Easter Seals
 · Joliet Franciscans
 · Will County Humane Society
 · Wags to Riches
 · Forest Park Community Center
 · Will County Forest Preserve
 · Joliet Area Community Hospice
 · Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home
 · Local Cemeteries
 · Cornerstone Services
 · Lambs Fold
 · Spanish Center
 · Daybreak
 · Alexandra Center
 · Catholic Charities

Groups went out and did a whole range of things from yard work to cleaning to simply spending time with folks who might not have a lot of visitors.  My group won the assignment lottery—we did nails for ladies at Villa  Franciscan.  It was fun, meaningful and important work.

Congratulations to Lissa Dow and her team for putting together another great event.

I am thrilled that Mary Wollgast offered to step into the leadership role for the Giving Tree program this year.   Mary is member of the Parish Council, and she is  frequently on the schedule to serve as a Eucharistic Minister at 7:30 a.m. Mass.  She’ll do a great job with the good guidance of past leaders Vicki Martell and Sue Runde and a group of eager volunteers.  If you’d like to help out, please reach out to Mary directly at 815-252-2405 or maryfw13@hotmail.com.

Also thanks to Kim McCarthy for re-upping to lead the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Kim ran the drive last year and agreed to do so again.  Watch the  bulletin for details and reminders.
