News You Can Use (NYCU)

Please keep Fr. Burke in your prayers. His father passed away this morning after a quick battle with cancer.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

ITEM #1: Advent Prayer

Please consider joining us Monday morning as we begin the third week of Advent lighting our Advent wreath and beginning our day in prayer. It takes place in the gym at 8 AM. All are welcome!

ITEM #2: Advent Offering

Thank you to everyone who donated hats, mittens, gloves and scarves. We collected nearly 250 items—147 gloves/mittens, 100 hats, 7 scarves, and 7 pairs of socks. All the items are being donated to our sister parish, Sacred Heart, which is located in the poorest neighborhood of Joliet. We are so grateful to be able to teach our students the importance of sharing Christ’s light with our brothers and sisters in Christ!

ITEM #3: K-8 Christmas Program

Our Christmas program is Thursday, December 20th at 7 PM in the Cathedral. Every student in K-8 is expected to attend. Attire is Christmas formal.

Doors will open at 6:30. Students will go to their classrooms first. Parent and relatives will go directly to the Cathedral. Some classes will be staying in their homerooms during the concert, while other classes will have seats reserved in the church. Dismissal at the end of the concert will happen from the Cathedral. We encourage parents to keep your child/ren’s jackets with you.

The Christmas Program will be a beautiful spiritual experience that will prepare us for Christ’s birth. This is the heart of a St. Ray’s experience. We can’t wait to share it with all of you!

ITEM #4: K-8 Christmas Program Dress Rehearsal

We will have a dress rehearsal for our K-8 Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 20th beginning at 1:30 PM. If a parent or grandparent cannot attend the evening production, we invite them to join us Thursday afternoon.

ITEM #5: Christmas Program Milk and Cookies

Last year we had great success with a reception following our Christmas program. It was a great opportunity to enjoy each other’s company. We will do it once again this year. We are asking for the assistance of families to help with donations. Please go by the grade level of your OLDEST child:

Kindergarten: Red Plastic Rectangle Table Cloth

1st grade: Plastic Cups

2nd: Small bottles of water

3rd: Gallon of Milk

4th-8th grade: Cookies

We will have a table of allergy friendly cookies.

Feel free to begin dropping off items in the office beginning Monday, December 17th. The milk and cookies can be brought in on the morning of December 20th and placed in the commons.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are normal uniform days.

Thursday, December 20, 2018: Christmas Best (for our dress rehearsal and concert)

ITEM #7: K-4 Author Assembly

Next Friday, December 21st at 9:30 AM, we will have an assembly with author Amy Logan. Amy’s books A Girl with a Cape and A Boy with a Cape are written to encourage and empower people, young and old, with a message that it is the everyday acts of kindness that change the world. This is the perfect message to end our season of Advent!

If you would like more information, you can go to Amy’s website at http://gotyourcape.com/home.html or her Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AGirlWithACape/

Parents are welcome to attend this assembly with us!

Beginning December 26th, we will be conducting asbestos removal in the school building. Specifically, pipe insulation in a small storage area will be removed. Abatement will be conducted using IL Dept. of Public Health licensed contractors and air monitoring personnel. The area will be sealed, negative air pressure provided in the area, and the air monitored before, during and after the project. Air clearance tests will be conducted after the project and the results will be placed in our asbestos project manual. Admittance to the area will be permitted only when the air clearance results are known to be specified by the IL Dept. of Public Health.
