News You Can Use – NYCU

Our annual Spaghetti Dinner is a labor of love. Many thanks to the parents, teachers and staff members who showed that many hands make light work. We couldn’t have done it without the dedication of so many—some who don’t even have students at St. Ray’s anymore! Tracy Pollack and Kathy Blotnik, chairs of the Spaghetti dinner, made it all look so easy! Their organization and pose are top notch!

While the Spaghetti Dinner and Winter Raffle are critical to our fundraising efforts, what is most inspiring about this event is looking around and seeing the bonds of friendship grow, and in some cases begin. It is an event that reminds us of how richly blessed we are here at St. Raymond.

ITEM #1: Parent Teacher Conferences—Sign Ups are Live Now!

Report cards were sent home yesterday in the family folder. Please review your child’s report card to celebrate their successes this past trimester and to set a goal for this upcoming trimester. The report card envelope will need to be signed and returned to school by Monday. The report card is for you to keep.

On Wednesday, March 6th we are offering optional spring parent/teacher conferences. Teachers will be available from 3-5 PM and again from 5:45-7PM.

For K-5th grade conferences, they must be scheduled. You can sign up for a time through your School Speak account. If you are having any trouble scheduling a conference, please reach out to Kelly Alt in the office.

For 7th and 8th grade conferences, from 3-5 PM and again from 5:45-6:15, the 7th and 8th grade teachers will participate in group conferences for specific students. Those parents will receive a note that a group conference is requested and the time slot that your family has been given.

For all other 7th and 8th grade parents, if you would like to speak to one or more of the teachers, you may come between 6:15 and 7:00 and stand outside their classroom door. It will be first come, first served.

ITEM #2: Tax Credit Scholarship Event

On Monday, March 4, 2019 JCA will be hosting a Tax Credit Scholarship/Invest in Kids Act Advocacy night with Senator Bertino-Tarrant. The event is to show our politicians the importance of school CHOICE. Even if your family is not impacted by the Tax Credit Scholarship, this bill could give Catholic schools a huge advantage and ensure the life and vitality of our schools. Your presence is needed and requested!

Please RSVP is you are able to join:

The Catholic Schools Office would like at least 25 families from St. Raymond to attend!

ITEM #3: Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday. We welcome all friends and families to the 8 AM which will be celebrated by Bishop Conlon.

Ash Wednesday begins the penitential season of Lent, a 40 day journey to ready ourselves for Jesus’ resurrection. The teacher Lenten committee has put together an amazing 6 week plan to deepen our relationship with God. This will sent home next Thursday in the family folder. In the meantime, what will you and your family do this Lenten season to grow in your love for God and our faith? The traditional tenants of Lent are prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Prayerfully consider how these next 40 days can and hopefully will transform you.

ITEM #4: PE Teacher Update

After a thorough search with the help of the Catholic Schools Office, Mrs. Jen Marino and Mrs. Cinnamon Leon will take on the PE position for the reminder of the year. Mrs. Marino will work Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Mrs. Leon will work Tuesday and Thursday. Both are highly qualified and have a phenomenal collaborative relationship. Mrs. Marino currently is the PE teacher on Tuesday and Thursday at St. Jude Joliet. She is familiar with our Catholic approach, has developed a PE curriculum and is familiar with the structures we have in place. The transition should be seamless.

If you would like to reach either Mrs. Marino or Mrs. Leon, their emails are:

Mrs. Marino –

Mrs. Leon –

Please join me in extending a welcome and gratitude to both these ladies for stepping in so quickly and allowing our students to continue with their physical education to the highest degree!

ITEM #4: State Accreditation Visit

Wednesday’s State Accreditation Visit was a success! While a final report is forthcoming, they were impressed with how everything was in order and meeting state compliance. In addition, there was great pride in seeing how our students welcomed our visitors. State Accreditation Visits happen every four years. We are good until 2023!

ITEM #5: Will County Spelling Bee

We extend the best of luck to 7th grader Joseph Karnezis who will be representing St. Ray’s at the Will County Spelling Bee on Thursday evening.
