News You Can Use (NYCU)

Please join us Sunday, Monday and Tuesday night at 7 PM (or any combination of those days) for our Lenten mission with Fr. Tom McCarthy! He will be speaking on ‘What does it mean to be Catholic today?’ Let’s pack the pews in order to fill our hearts with more ways to be like Jesus! Can’t wait to see all of you there!

ITEM #1: Re-registration for the 2019-2020 school year

The re-registration packet for the 2019-2020 school year will be going home next week in the family folder. Registration is critically important to planning and budget decisions for next year. We can’t make teacher placement decisions until we have a solid understanding of our enrollment numbers.

There will be an early bird re-registration rate of $100 if the re-registration form and fee are handed in to the office by Friday, April 5th. After this date the re-registration fee increases to $150. Take advantage of the savings!

If you plan on not returning next year, please indicate that on the re-registration form and return it to school. If you are not certain of your intent, please reach out to the office or to Ms. Hill.

ITEM #2: Dress Down Day

Next week will be the “last” Friday of the month that we are in session and will be a $1 dress down.

ITEM #3: Health Records

Kindergarten, 2nd grade and 6th grade parents: If your child's health record is incomplete, a notice was sent home in Thursday’s Family Folder. Kindergarten students are required to have a dental and vision examination form on file and 2nd grade students and 6th grade students are required to have a dental examination form on file. These forms are due by May 15, 2019. Should you have any questions regarding your child's heath record, please contact Mrs. Alt in the office.

ITEM #4: Music Accolades

Last week several St. Ray’s students participated at a Solo & Ensemble contest held at Divine Infant School in Westchester. The contest was sponsored by Music on the Move, the provider of music lessons to our students. The following students earned medals for their performance:

Joshua Herrera, clarinet solo

Molly Hogan, clarinet solo

Jackson Kodiak, clarinet solo

Maris Jesiolowski, snare drum solo

Alaina Potocki, snare drum solo

Maris J. and Alain P. also earned a first place score for a snare drum duet.

Congratulations to those students and their families! We are so proud of you and thankful you share the beautiful gift of music with our world!

ITEM #5: Confessions

As we continue our Lenten journey, it is important to prepare our hearts and minds for the journey Jesus will take to his crucifixion and ultimate resurrection. In preparation for this, the students in 3rd-8th will have their confessions heard on Thursday. Please pray for our young people that the sacrament will be fruitful and move them closer to Christ.

ITEM #6: Stations of the Cross

We will pray the Stations again on Friday, March 22nd at 2:25. If you are available, we welcome you to join us!

ITEM #7: Save the Date--Living Stations of the Cross

On Thursday, April 18th at 2 PM in the Cathedral Mrs. Jacoby and Mrs. Bialko’s 4th grade class will be presenting a prayerful interpretation of our Lord’s journey to the cross. It is amazingly beautiful and has brought many people to tears in the past. We hope you will join us!

ITEM #8: Save the Date—Grandparents Day!

Grandparents Day is Wednesday, April 10th. This is a unique opportunity to share with our grandparents the place we all love and care for.

The day will begin with 9 AM mass and is followed by a concert choreographed by Ms. Keenon and classroom visits. More details will follow as we get closer.

ITEM #9: Grandparent Tribute/Pictures Needed

As we did last year, we would like to honor any grandparents, great grandparents, or grand friends that have passed away since our last Grandparents Day in April of 2018. If this is the case with your family, please bring in a photo (preferably in a frame) by Friday, April 5th, so we can create a special place in the Cathedral to honor them during the show. The idea is that they would be in attendance, but their passing leaves a noticeable absence.

Please mark your child's name on the back with a note or post it so it can be returned to you after the show. Have your children bring them directly to Ms. Keenon in the music room anytime. If you have questions, please email me at hkeenon@csrn.org .
