News You Can Use (NYCU)

What a week it has been here at St. Ray’s!

Over the last four days we were awed by the musical and artistic talents of our 6th-8th graders! After four performances and countless hours of practicing, our students can stand tall with pride over what they accomplished. On behalf of our school community, we want to thank Mrs. Schertz, Ms. Keenon, and Mrs. Latz for sharing their gifts and talents in order for our students to discover theirs.

Today, we honored Mary as queen of heaven and earth with our annual May Crowning. Eighth grader Ceselie Mudron along with Marley Hennessy, Abby Williams, and Paige Michel had the distinct honor to lead our crowning of Mary.

We also celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week! HSA spoiled us every day this week. Add to that the many expressions of love and gratitude from our students and families, we would say this has been a good week. Our hearts are definitely full. Thank you!

ITEM #1: Rocket Walk

Our dreams are BIG and our vision is BOLD! Help us reach them! We are really excited about the possibility of IPads. Imagine the potential for your child!

As of 1 PM this afternoon, we have raised $6,760. We have a bit to go to even reach our baseline goal of $15,000. With one week left in pledge giving, we really want to hit our reach goal of $24,000. Can you help us with that?

Did you share your online link to social media? Typically links that are shared bring in $120-150. Did you send the link to family, friends, co-workers via email? Anything you can do is always a big help to achieve our goal.

Thank you for extending your reaches to help us elevate St. Ray’s. We are most appreciative of your efforts!

ITEM #2: Rocket Walk Permission Slip

Rocket Walk permission slips were due today. No student is allowed to walk unless we have a permission slip. If you forgot, we will take them on Monday.

ITEM #3: Rocket Walk and Field Day Details

Rocket Walk and Field Day will kick off with mass at 8 AM where we will celebrate our faith, unity and school spirit. After mass, students will create signs to show their love and pride for our school from 9-9:30 and attend a pep rally from 9:30-10:00. Rocket Walk will be from 10-11 AM.

If your child has a noisemaker, pom poms, or other fun spirit items, they are allowed to bring them to use in our walk.

Hot Dog Fun Lunch and Field Day games will run from 11 AM – 2 PM.

If you would like to volunteer for the day, please contact Tracy Pollack at or 815-325-7500 . All volunteers must have completed the Protecting God’s Children Workshop and have an updated background check.

ITEM #4: OktoberFest Kick-Off Event

The OktoberFest Committee is hosting a kick-off event on Tuesday, May 14th in the Commons beginning at 6:30. Come see how you can help make OktoberFest 2019 the best it can be! We are not asking for a big commitment. If you can only give an hour to help with O’Fest, we have something for you to do! If you can only devote time to helping in the month of June/July, we have something for you! In other words, no matter how much you have free, we have something for you to do! Many hands make light work. OktoberFest benefits each and every family at St. Raymond. Please prayerfully consider doing something—big or small—to help in these efforts.

We will see YOU on Tuesday, May 14th at 6:30! Food and beverages will be provided.

If you have any questions, you can reach out to this year’s chairs Theresa and Chris Watkins at 815-274-6215.

ITEM #5: Final Day of School

The final day of school is Friday, May 31st. We will be attending mass at 8:00 AM with Fr. Bill. Following mass, we will have our last day of school award assembly. Dismissal will be at 9:30. This is a change from the red calendar. All are welcome to join us for mass and the assembly!

ITEM #6: Uniform Guidelines

Attached are the uniform guidelines for the 2019-2020 school year. This year has been a transition to the new uniform. No changes have been made for the coming year.

School Belles is our official uniform provider. Sharp Sports in Shorewood also has our uniform polo available.

As you purchase uniforms this summer, please note some common violations:

1. Socks are not solid. To be in compliance with the uniform guideline no symbols or logos should be seen on the socks.

2. Uniform skirts/jumpers are shorter than 2” above the top part of the knee. Please consider that your child will grow throughout the year, sometimes, several inches in one year, as you buy your jumpers/skirts. Give yourself some wiggle room.

3. Uniform shorts and pants are fitting like leggings as opposed to slacks. No uniform bottom should be form fitting.

4. The polo shirts are expected to be knit. Dri-Fit is not allowed.

5. The polo shirt is being worn under the uniform jumper. The only shirt allowed under the jumper is the peter pan collar white button down shirt.

If you have any questions about the uniform, please ask anyone in the office.

ITEM #7: Schoolbelles Measuring

Schoolbelles will be at the Cathedral of St. Raymond School on Tuesday, May 14th from 2:30pm – 4:00pm in the Commons for measurements of uniforms for the 2019– 2020 school year. They will provide samples to try on as well as opportunities to order our school uniform. (You can also get measured and order later in the summer if you like.)

ITEM #8: 2019-2020 school calendar

Attached to this week’s NYCU is the 2019-2020 school calendar. Please note this calendar is tentative. All the vacations and days off are set; however, it is possible some of the events or meetings may change. The red calendar given at packet pick up is always the most up-to-date.

ITEM #9: School Supply Lists

School supply lists will go out next week. HSA will once again have a package you can purchase. We encourage all families to take advantage of this.

ITEM #10: Early Release

With board support, we are moving the Wednesday early release to Thursday and changing the time from 1:35 to 2:05. There were several factors in making that change: 1. We need to reduce the number of kids staying for EXPLORE. Our supervision is limited during EXPLORE and we want to provide the best experience for students. Hopefully a later time will have a few more kids picked up. 2. JCA has their early release on Thursday. Again, we hope high school siblings can now come pick up a few more kids.

This year we added 5 minutes to our day by start at 7:55 as opposed to 8:00. This put 25 minutes of instruction back on the week. Moving dismissal from 1:35 to 2:05 we will add an additional 30 minutes of instruction. That only leaves 30 minutes of missed instruction in total each week from what was before. This still puts us hours ahead of what the state requires.

ITEM #11: Yearbook Photos

We have had some great events the last week! We want to make sure we include them in the yearbook! If you've taken pictures that would be great for our yearbook, please send them in. JPEG's can be emailed to .

We still have many important events coming up...keep on aiming, clicking, and sending!

ITEM #12: Happy Mother’s Day!

We wish all of our moms, grandmas, godmothers, aunts and mother figures a most amazing Mother’s day! Your sacrificial love and witness to the faith are an inspiration to all of us! May your day be full of blessings!
