“Joy is the most infallible sign of the presence of God.” -Pierre de Chardin

Have a beautifully joy-filled weekend! Remember to give an hour to our Lord who all good things come!

ITEM #1: High School Visits

Attention 8th grade families! On Tuesday, September 11th Joliet Catholic Academy and Providence Catholic High School will be at St. Ray’s to present to the Class of 2019. Providence Catholic will present at 1:45 and JCA will present at 2:15. If you are interested in listening to either presentation, you are more than welcome to attend. We hope that you will join us!

ITEM #2: Catechetical Sunday

Sunday, September 16th has been designated Catechetical Sunday by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops. Many churches throughout the United States will extend a special blessing on Catholic School and Religious Education teachers for the work they do to pass on the faith. While the Catholic Church believes parents are the first educators of the faith, we know that it takes a community to raise our children to know, love and serve God.

We have designated the 9 AM mass that Sunday as a family mass. Please mark your calendar. We want to pack the church with our students and families!

ITEM #3: Cross Country

St. Ray’s is having a fantastic cross country season. At the first meet of the year in which we competed against Richland, Vito Martinez Middle School and St. Paul, we had 7 of our students in the top 15 for the one mile! Congratulations to Ellie Blotnik in 6th grade who came in first overall for the one mile in a time of 6:45. Lukas Klein in 5th grade was right there with Ellie coming in 2nd (1st for boys) with a time of 6:47!

In the two mile race, 7th grader Claire Blotnik took first place finishing in a time of 13:47, a minute and half ahead of the second place finisher. Impressive!

Congratulations to the entire team and to their coaches!

ITEM #4: Athletic Board Meeting

There is an Athletic Board Meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 13th at 6:30 PM. Meetings are held in the teachers’ lounge. All are welcome.

Thank you in advance for all you have done/are doing to support OktoberFest! OktoberFest is not only our largest fundraiser, but it brings together over 500 people as we enjoy each other’s company and continue the bonds of friendship that make St. Ray’s a place of community.

ITEM #6: Music on the Move

Last week students in 4th-6th grade attended a presentation from Music on the Move on the possible instruments they could learn to play through small group lessons. A form went home detailing the instruments offered and the cost of the lessons. We are still finalizing the details on when the lessons will be offered, but if looks like we will be offering them during EXPLORE! This way students will not miss any class time. If you are interested in having your 4th-8th grade child participate, please return the form and payment to the school office by Tuesday, September 11th.

ITEM #7: Happy Birthday!

This awesome lady is celebrating her birthday:

Mrs. Katie Homolka—3rd Grade Aide—Saturday, September 8

Please be sure to wish her a “Happy Birthday!” We are so blessed that she shares her gifts and talents with the St. Ray’s community.
