WHAT IS STEWARDSHIP

Stewardship is about growing and returning to God the gifts that He has given to us. The Lord shows us that burying our gifts is no different than never really having them in the first place (Matthew 25:14-30). As followers of Christ, we are called to be Good and Faithful Servants, over the gifts He entrusts to us. This means investing our Time, our Talent, and our Treasures for the growth of His Church.

Offertory Envelopes

Offertory envelopes are mailed every other month to registered parishioners. The mailing includes envelopes for the weekly collection and special collections. Each envelope has a unique number that allows the parish to track contributions to a particular parishioner.

Legacy and Planned Giving

Including St. Raymond  in your Will can lower the taxable amount of your estate and, at the same time, provide support to the parish.

The Diocese of Joliet has partnered with Catholic Legacy to make planned giving easier. Using this free tool, you can write a will quickly and easily, protect what God has blessed you with, and make a gift directly to St. Raymond parish or school. And if you’d prefer to finalize your will with an attorney, you can still use the tool to create a list of documented wishes.

Stocks and Mutual Funds

Giving stock or a mutual fund that you have owned for at least a year that has increased in value can be a very smart way to support the mission of St. Raymond. Much of the same income tax savings may be available to you for donating stock as they are for writing a check, but giving your appreciated stock may also allow you to eliminate the capital gains taxes that would be due if you sold it yourself. St. Raymond will get the full value of your stock, and you may also be entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction based on the stock’s value on the date transferred.

Please contact our Business Manager, Pete Pluth at 815-722-6653 before making your gift.

Employer Matching Gifts

Many employers offer matching gifts as an employee benefit. This can be an excellent way to make your donation dollars go further if your employer matches your contributions to a non-profit. Please contact your employer’s HR department about setting this up. Please also alert our Business Manager, Pete Pluth in the parish office so we can track and confirm the gift, 815-722-6653.

Make a Tax-Free Gift with an IRA

Did you know that you may be able to give to St. Raymond and save money at the same time? There are different options depending on your age.

Age 70.5 or Older

If you are 70.5 years or older, you may be able to give an amount (up to $100,000) each year from your IRA directly to St. Raymond without having to pay taxes on the money. This is a popular form of giving that is sometimes referred to as the IRA charitable rollover, or the qualified charitable distribution (QCD).

Additional Benefits for Those 72 or Older

When you turn 72, the transferred funds may begin counting toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) so you do not pay income taxes on the gift. The funds transferred to charity do not qualify for a charitable deduction, but they may become exempted from taxable income whether or not you itemize deductions. Lowering your taxable annual income level could also result in lower Medicare premiums and the amount of Social Security subject to taxes. Your disbursement must come directly from the administrator of your IRA to the parish. You cannot receive the funds first. Please contact the administrator of your IRA with any tax or account-specific questions or our Business Manager, Pete Pluth at 815-722-6653.
